We are delighted that the Open Close online survey developed in collaboration with Dr Juliette Summers of St Andrews University is now live! To take part follow the links on our website or go to www.open-close.co.uk/take-part.
The survey is titled Open Close: Exploring the Value of Urban Space and involves uploading a photo of what is most important to you about the space in four of the Closes off the Royal Mile: Trunks Close, Chalmer's Close, North Gray's Close and Carrubber's Close. Once you have uploaded your photo you will be guided through a short series of questions covering why you are in the Close (are you a resident; a tourist; on your way to work?), which Close you are in and how you feel about the subject matter of what you have just uploaded.
We are lucky enough to have a great deal of important information about numbers of pedestrian, traffic and some of the issues faced by and in the Closes. This survey aims to look much more closely however at what our emotional experience of these spaces is.
The survey will remain live before, during and after the Open Close exhibition and will help us to examine whether the art and architecture installations proposed might affect how people experience the Closes.
